President Uchtdorf said it best! I love that talk! And I give it out all the time. To investigators. To less actives. It's Golden. General Conference talks are golden!! I'm dying I'm so excited for it!! Everyone prepare for it by writing down your questions + I promise they will be answered. Every single one. The talk makes me think of 1 Peter 2:9. We are peculiar peeps for sure, but even more reason to come join with us!

Johnathan joined!! I had my first baptism and it was awesome!! They say over + over again in the MTC how people truly are prepared for us + Johnathan definitely was! We met him the day I got to Pampa + set an appointment to meet with him that Saturday. We thought we were going to meet a less active, so we asked "When were you baptized?" And he tells us that he was baptized into Trinity but was "fixin' to get baptized again." And my eyes got huge! That first lesson we set his baptism date and he wrote it on his giant wall calendar. Then the next week was his birthday, and me being the birthday crazed person decided we needed to give him a gift- a card, treats, + a marked Book of Mormon- he loved it!! He started reading the next day on his work break. And are you ready for this.. the first time he opened the book he dumped out his chewing tobacco! He started when he was 17, so for 12 years he dipped + he just stopped like that! Before we even taught the Word of Wisdom! I love it!!

He has a learning disability and so his reading comprehension is super low but I promised him that he would be able to read and understand the Book of Mormon + he can! And he loves to read it! He texts us scriptures all the time. And puts them on FB all the time. Teaching him was the best! On Friday night before the baptism he said to look in our bags because he slipped money into them to "tip us" jajajaja. So we had to explain we don't take money, so he bought us cookies instead.

The morning of the baptism was crazy. We had to turn on the font at 7 for it to be ready + we could NOT get our front door to unlock (it has major issues) so we had to go out the back sliding door and leaving the apartment unlocked. Which is sketchy at the Gwendolens. Then we got to the church + I fell into the font in the dark! Thank the heavens I didn't bust my face because ain't nobody got time for that! Let's just say I was a little worried for how the baptism service was going to go after a start like that. But it was awesome!! We text basically every member the night before + they came! It was packed!! So packed thatour other investigator asked if that many people had to come to hers, cuz she would prefer less. Grandma Julie's Baptism Talk was a hit! It was perfect for Johnathan. He loved it! It was my first convert baptism I've ever been to, which means my first baptism without "I Like to Look for Rainbows," so when Johnathan asked me to give the baptism talk I thought perfect at least that will be how the norm. Really though the baptism was perfect! More people need to come join with us!!

That was obviously the moment of the week! As Kelly would say: "Oh, I can't believe it's happening to me Some people wait a lifetime, For a moment like this!"

Other moments included:

Don. This week he drew us pictures! And he told us that during the baptism he wanted to slip into white and just do it then! He just had to quit smoking. So this week on Tuesday we are going with him to see if he can get a new apartment so he can leave the Coffee St. environment. Yesterday he missed church though because he said he woke up and his stomach was just so hungry he had to get on the bus to go to the Baptist Church because they serve a huge breakfast. It broke my heart! Pray for Don! Btw his dog's name is Auggie.

We taught a Spanish lesson this week to Maria! She is super interested + has a huge family! Hna. Rocha says it's a miracle she understands me because sometimes she can't even, but Maria does Maria does! Have an appointment with her tomorrow too so pray for my Spanish!

My companion got a huge box of Mexican candy from her mom so I'm finally being exposed to Spanish culture + she is teaching me the little kid Spanish sayings!!

The weather here is just as crazy as ever! On Tuesday we actually had to stay in our apartment all night because of a crazy wind/ dust storm. Yes we were grounded. Which did not help our already struggling week. People just did not want to let us in. We tried so hard! So this week we are focusing on getting new investigators who will come join with us!

xoxo

con amor,

Hermana Slade

Lines of the Week:

Hna. Rocha: You call him.

Me: Why me?

Hna. Rocha: Because I don't know how to talk to old white men.

Me: And I do?

Hna. Rocha: Well you have a grandpa

Johnathan: Guess what I did today!?

Me: What?

Johnathan: I got $40 in cash. Put $20 of gas in my car + then went straight to Walmart and bought whitey-tighties for my baptism!
